So, SOMEBODY told me this did not deserve to be called apple pie because it was neither rich or sweet enough,… I personally like it but, okay, I’ll compromise and trick you by using the French name and calling it a breakfast dish :>
Ingredients:
FOR THE DOUGH:
- 1/2c heaping white flour + 1c whole-wheat flour
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1/4c turbinado sugar
- 2 TBSP coconut oil
- 1/2c almond milk
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- dash vanilla extract
FOR THE FILLING:
- almond butter
- apple sauce (+ sugar if unsweetened)
- 2 apples, peeled and sliced into thin half-moons
Instructions:
- preheat oven at 400F
- mix all the dough ingredients throroughly, and fill a pie dish
- spread a thin layer of almond butter first, then apple sauce, sprinkle with sugar
- add the apples in a flower-like, concentric circles arrangement
- bake for 40 minutes
